Absolutely. Perfect. Timing.
Jazz guard Mo Williams hit a walk-off, game-winning buzzer-beater to top the Spurs 99-96 at Energy Solutions Arena on Wednesday night.
Williams wound the clock down, content to launch in isolation over Spurs guard Danny Green at the top of the key. Replays showed that Williams released his shot with just over one second remaining; the ball went through the hoop cleanly just before the buzzer sounded. The shot sent the Jazz bench rushing onto the court in jubilation. Williams finished with eight points, four assists and three rebounds on 3-of-9 shooting. The game-winner was the only one of four 3-point attempts that Williams made.
Wednesday’s hero was traded to the Jazz by the Clippers over the summer in a multi-team deal that landed Lamar Odom in Los Angeles. He has has stepped in as the starting point guard for coach Tyrone Corbin after the Jazz traded Devin Harris to the Hawks for small forward Marvin Williams.
Williams, 29, is averaging 14.2 points and 7.2 assists in 32.5 minutes per game this season. The Jazz improved to 13-10 with the win; the Spurs fell to 18-5.
