Warriors’ Stephen Curry calls sleeved jerseys ‘ugly’ after loss

The Warriors made a ripple when they unveiled new adidas jerseys back in February, as the design was the first in the modern NBA to include sleeves.

The debut of the jerseys, in a dramatic overtime win over the Spurs, went off without a hitch. Despite the polarizing design, there hadn’t been any major incidents until Friday night, when the Warriors lost to the Bulls 113-95 in embarrassing fashion in Oakland.

USA Today Sports reports that Warriors guard Stephen Curry let his true feelings on the jerseys be known afterwards.

“You’re on national TV, NBATV (the game was not nationally televised), wearing our ugly jerseys,” said Curry, who had just eight points on 2 of 13 shooting and didn’t hit a three-pointer for the first time in 54 games. “I shouldn’t have said that (about the jerseys), but it’s just one of those things where there’s a lot of attention on us and we don’t show up to play. And we just come up short. We want to give our fans a show. We want to give them something to cheer about and make it fun for them to come to the game. When they’re leaving with six or seven minutes left, that’s not a good night.”

Please, if you will indulge us in a rare “I told you so.” From our initial reaction to the designs

It remains to be seen whether this will be a fad or the beginning of an evolution, but one thing is for sure: We know exactly what’s getting blamed the next time someone suffers through a 4-for-18 shooting night.

The good news for Curry and for the anti-sleeves folks: the Bay Area News Group reports that the Warriors will not wear the jerseys again during the regular season.  To the front-office executives and equipment managers planning to break these out in a potential first-round playoff series: proceed at your own risk.

Maybe its the shorts that look like baby monkey diapers.

There was a Jordan commercial once where MJ kept saying: "It's not the shoes".   Well, today, Curry, clearly, "it's not the sleeves".  2-13 shooting, and you're pissed about the sleeves?  OH, COME ON, MAN!

The best shooter in the league is Stephen Curry.  If the sleeves are a problem then lose them.

@Jesse Bernal So the reason for his poor night HAD to be the sleeves?  Had the Warrior played with the sleeves before?  Yes.  Has Curry had good shooting games with the sleeved shirts?  Yes.  Sometimes shooters just have off nights.  There is nothing to indicate that the sleeves had anything to do with Curry's lousy game.

@Jesse Bernal Jesse - You're clearly right.  How could I be such an idiot?  (My family has been asking me that for pretty much my entire life).  I stand corrected by you.  Clearly I have no idea what I am talking about and need to try to stop being such an effing idiot.  Sorry I disagreed with you earlier.  The sleeves are ugly and THE cause of Curry's poor night.  Thank you for correcting me, Jesse, and thank you for being the voice of reason.  (I only wish I had the mental ability to have comprehended your first email).  Again, I am sorry.

Just because the sleeves didn't bother him the first few times doesn't mean they didn't bother him on that particular night.  To me it's a more of a mental thing.  Curry has already shared his dislike for them by calling them ugly.  The sleeves just might be a mental thing,  did you ever think of that?
