Fan attempts to steal LeBron James’ headband after Heat win streak ends

LeBron James, Miami Heat

By Ben Eagle

Wednesday was a frustrating night for LeBron James. His team’s 27-game winning streak ended in Chicago, his frustration with NBA officiating came to a head and, to top it all off, a fan tried to steal his headband.

The attempted theft came as the Heat were heading toward the visting locker room. James, who finished with a game-high 32 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks, was minding his own business when a fan reached from the stands to pluck the headband straight off his head. Surprised, James recoiled and gave the fan a death stare.

Later, James vented to reporters about the physical treatment on the court in Chicago.

“I’m not sitting here crying about anything,” James said. “I play the game at a high level, I play with a lot of aggression, I understand that some of the plays are on the borderline of a basketball play or not. But sometimes, you know, I don’t know … it’s frustrating.”

As Dan Devine at Yahoo! Sports noted, James has given his headbands away in the past, so maybe this was simply a misunderstanding on the fan’s part. Either way, on this night, it wasn’t so great to be The King.

Ryan what part of Labrons comments about the refs were factually incorrect?  I see where he commented on specific plays but not a specific comment about a ref and what he said about the plays match what I see on camera.  And I am someone who is not a Labron fan but BEN ENGLE if your honest opinion is that "mabye this was a simple misunderstanding on the fan's part" then I'm not really sure I am interested in your opinion on sports / basketball.  Comments like that should cause readers to demand drug testing for members of the media.

So begins the distancing the players from the fans.  High fives allowed ONLY.

I'm sorry, that's just rude.  Fans have no business putting their hands on players.

Hey Dan....you're right...LBJ does once and while "give" away a headband after a game....This was no misunderstanding on the part of that stupid individual trying to "take" the headband.  That puke was in the stands who just enjoyed seeing the Heat lose and probably had some nasty things to say about the Heat during the game and then expects to get a headband from the guy they were talking smack to?  Some people are so fricken ignorant.

James comments about the refs are factually incorrect.  But I'm not sure why a fan would think they can steal a headband off a player?

One might wonder how much that headband will be worth, say 30 years from now??
