Video: Grizzlies’ Mike Conley hits last-second game-winner to beat Spurs
By Ben Golliver
Grizzlies guard Mike Conley hit a last-second, game-winning lay-up to defeat the Spurs 92-90 at the FedEx Forum on Monday night.
With 6.2 seconds remaining and the score tied at 90, Conley received the ball and went to work on Danny Green, shaking him with a between-the-legs dribble and creating the necessary daylight to drive hard to the hoop. Although he never quite turned the corner, Conley got enough of a step to lean in and loft a lefty banker over Green’s contesting effort. The basket went in with 0.6 seconds left and Spurs guard Tony Parker came up empty on the other end.
Conley finished with a team-high 23 points (on 11-for-17 shooting), three rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes. He scored five points in the game’s final 30 seconds to deliver the home win. Marc Gasol added 16 points (on six-for-14 shooting), seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block for Memphis, who won its third straight game.
The Spurs lost a game in the closing seconds for the second consecutive night. On Sunday, Miami’s Chris Bosh hit a game-winning three-pointer in the closing seconds to defeat San Antonio. The Spurs have also beaten the Clippers on a Tim Duncan game-winner and lost to the Rockets on a James Harden game-winner over the last week.
Memphis, the Western Conference’s No. 5 seed, improved to 50-24 with the win. San Antonio, the West’s No. 1 seed, dropped to 55-19.
