Video: Clippers’ Chris Paul hits game-winner to top Grizzlies

Clippers guard Chris Paul hit a last-second, game-winning floater to defeat the Grizzlies 93-91 in Game 2 of their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

With 13.9 seconds remaining, the Clippers inbounded the ball from the sideline, using a exchange between Chauncey Billups and Jamal Crawford to milk the clock and set up Paul at the top of the key. Paul sized up Tony Allen, one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders, as the clock hit six seconds, going to a series of stutter moves to get by Allen going to his right. Once he reached the free-throw line extended, Paul picked up his dribble with roughly two seconds remaining, jumping off one foot to toss up the leaning floater over a helping Darrell Arthur, which banked in as time expired. The officials put 0.1 second back on the clock after Paul’s basket, downgrading the apparent buzzer-beater into a mere game-winner after the Grizzlies were unable to score  on the other end.

“I knew Tony Allen is a hell of a defender,” Paul said in a televised post-game interview. “We tried to get him to switch off, we tried to get Mike Conley on me. After I made the shot, I came over here and said, ‘That was some great defense.’ He just kept me off-balance, but luckily I got over to my right and luckily I got my floater off.”

Paul finished with a team-high 24 points (on 9-of-17 shooting), nine assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes. The six-time All-Star scored the Clippers’ last eight points over the game’s final 3:46 to deliver the win.

Los Angeles, the West’s No. 4 seed, took a 2-0 series lead over Memphis, the No. 5 seed. Conley led the Grizzlies with a game-high 28 points (on 9-of-18 shooting) and nine assists in a losing effort.

This effort marked the second game-winner of the 2013 playoffs. Denver’s Andre Miller delivered a game-winner against Golden State in Game 1 on Saturday.

He probably didn't commit a carrying violation 2 or 3 times on that play to improve his ability to get by Allen, huh?

I had to work last night but was glad I set the DVR for both games being played.  They were both excellent, and the way Paul hit the shot at the buzzer was the perfect finale.  I'm not a Clippers fan, but I enjoy the drama both Chris Paul and Andre Miller created near the end.  When my shift at DISH was over I went home and flipped the Bulls game on; it was a good defensive battle, and I'm glad the Bulls played tougher than their last game.  I switched over to the Clippers game and I love being able to fast-forward through the commercials to get right back to the action.  I'm also glad my DISH Hopper has 2,000 hours of storage on the DVR.  There were only 2 games on last night, but it's cool being able to record all the games I want and not have to worry about running out of space.
