Warriors’ Stephen Curry exchanges words with Nuggets fan after loss

2013 NBA playoffs, Ben Golliver, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Mark Jackson, Stephen Curry

Warriors guard Stephen Curry exchanged words with a Nuggets fan as he exited the Pepsi Center court following a 107-100 loss in Game 5 on Tuesday.

Curry was heading through the tunnel with his teammates when he stopped to address a fan who had apparently said something to him. Curry pointed his finger at the young male fan twice, before teammate Draymond Green intervened. The fan backed up and put his hands in the air and then continued to shout things as the Warriors headed for the locker room. A security guard appeared to tell the fan to settle down as the remaining Golden State players and coaches departed the court.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that Curry said that the fan “said something stupid” to him, which prompted the fourth-year guard to tell the fan to “shut up.”

Curry finished with 15 points, eight assists and four rebounds and told reporters afterwards that he felt the Nuggets had targeted him with physical play.

“I’m going through the paint minding mind my own business and they’re coming out of nowhere trying to throw elbows,” he said. “They’ve got a hit out on me, I don’t know what it is.”

Warriors coach Mark Jackson accused the Nuggets of “dirty plays” and said that Denver was “[trying] to send hit men” after Curry, who has starred throughout the series while also suffered a sprained left ankle and taking an ugly poke in the eye.

The Warriors now lead the series 3-2. Game 6 is set for Thursday in Oakland.
