Bulls’ Marco Belinelli fined for ‘obscene gesture’
The NBA announced Monday that Bulls guard Marco Belinelli has been fined $15,000 for “making an obscene gesture” during Saturday’s Game 7 win over the Nets in Brooklyn. The news was first reported by USA Today Sports.
Belinelli received the sanction for his celebration of a fourth-quarter three-pointer that put the Bulls up by 10 points with just under five minutes remaining. After knocking down the shot, Belinelli backpedaled while positioning both of his hands below his waistline, as if to demonstrate the large size of his genitalia. The celebration was popularized by Wizards assistant coach and former NBA player Sam Cassell and is generally referred to as the “Big Balls Dance.”
Chicago went on to defeat Brooklyn 99-93 to advance to face Miami in an Eastern Conference semifinals series that begins Monday. Belinelli finished with 24 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
