Video: Anthony Davis snatches pass, goes coast-to-coast for dunk in USA Showcase
LAS VEGAS — Pelicans forward Anthony Davis drew some oohs and aahs early in the USA Basketball Showcase on Thursday, rising high to break up an alley-oop before dribbling the length of the court to finish a dunk on the other end.
With Davis’ Blue team holding a 23-17 lead over the White team and a little more than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft snatched an attempted alley-oop from Rockets forward Chandler Parsons to Clippers center DeAndre Jordan out of the air with his right hand. Davis collected himself and decided to start dribbling the ball up the court, rather than handing the ball over to one of his guards. When no one stopped him in transition, he picked up his pace and cruised in for a soaring one-handed jam.
Of course, the defense being played in the intrasquad exhibition has been minimal. The game features 24 players competing to earn spots on USA Basketball’s roster for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
The White team took a 53-51 lead into halftime. Davis, considered a virtual lock to make next summer’s squad, tallied a team-high 10 points and four rebounds in the first half.
