The Lakers might be headed for a transition season after Dwight Howard’s departure, but at least their fans will be treated to some new looks when Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash and company take the court.

On Thursday, the organization posted a teaser video on Twitter showing glimpses of their new black “Hollywood Nights” alternate jerseys. The video shows a flash of the jersey’s front, which features the word “Lakers” and the jersey number in purple with gold trim. The jersey also features purple and gold trim running down the sides. The shorts are a direct match to the top: black with purple and gold trim on the side.

ESPNLA.com reported earlier this week that the design is one of multiple new jerseys the Lakers will use during the 2013-14 season.

The Lakers will wear short-sleeve jerseys next season in “several” games, according to a team source. The jerseys will be white, the same color as the alternative uniforms the Lakers introduced for the 2002-03 season and traditionally wear on Sundays.

The Lakers will also be adding a black jersey to their uniform rotation next season, according to a league source. The alternative uniform will be part of the league’s city pride series, joining the Detroit Pistons’ upcoming “Motor City” uniforms and the Portland Trail Blazers’ “Rip City” set, but unlike the others, it will still say “Lakers” across the chest. The lettering and numerals will appear in purple with gold outlines and the rest of the jersey material will be primarily black, with some gold accents, the source said.

Below, check out a close-up look at the shorts, plus the teaser video.

Would of loved to see Dwight Howard in a black laker uniform last year with his black sleeves back on. He looked like the intimidator in all black.  So thank you Laker organization for waiting until this year. Appreciate it.  I'm sure the new jersey sales will be up as we struggle over the 8th seed this year.

Why the heck did they not release new jersey's LAST YEAR, instead of this year?  Ya know, when they entered the season with all the hype of Nash and Dwight Howard joining Gasol and Kobe and forming a dream team?  Seems like THAT would of been the opportune time, instead of trying to sell new jerseys during a rebuild.

I feel like the Laker decision makers have collectively lost their mind.

This makes headlines on SI's front page?  What's next, a catwalk?  Move it to the fashion page.

Lakers are very good at selling tickets. The Dantoni and Howard moves may have been a total fiasco on the court but they sure generated lot of buzz off the court .Lesson is  if your're not going to win a title make lots of cash doing it.

Get it over with already. Make all NBA uniforms mandatory solid black, with black numbers, black socks, black shoes, black arm sleeves, black compression shorts, and black headbands. Make it illegal to have any splash of color or striping. Announce that all NBA team colors have been abandoned for one single color...black. Even better, eliminate the jersey, and adopt basketball hoodies, preferably in size XXXXXXL, so they can hang just above the knee and look righteous. If this is what all the fans really want, and it makes the players feel more threatening, masculine, and better about their mating prowess, then "Git 'er done". Stop the incrementalism. Get it over with. Just do it. And while they're at it, get those horrible white stripes off those referees shirts. Make them solid black too.

the color seems similar to the black jazz uniform

short sleeve jerseys are ugly and reminds me of womens basketball in Kansas in the 1930's.

It's a good look, and no doubt an nba best seller.

Should wear black as a memorial to the Dantoni hiring and Howard fiasco

@FredFlintsone Are you from L.A. Fred? The Lakers sell out games even when they are not a title contending team. Bringing in Howard didn't make a difference in ticket sales one way or another.

@Voiceover310 @FredFlintsone Bro, ticket sells are a very small portion of an Nba teams gross seasonal income.  T..V. deals, sponsors, and GLOBAL merchandizing are the largest portion of the pie by a large margin.  Yes, they should of released new alternate jerseys LAST YEAR when they had all the hype of Nash and Howard joining the team and forming a dream team!

Not wait until a rebuild or verge of rebuilding to try to sell new jerseys. Business 101.  You're right, they're the Lakers, so they'll be fine but seriously, I wonder how much money they lost by NOT doing this last year.
