Video: Blake Griffin tomahawk dunk makes Rudy Gobert duck for cover

Clippers forward Blake Griffin threw down a tomahawk dunk that caused Jazz rookie center Rudy Gobert to duck and cover to avoid the poster during L.A.’s 103-99 preseason win on Wednesday.

With a little more than four minutes remaining in the third quarter and the Jazz leading 64-62, Griffin and Chris Paul executed a little two-man game at the top of the key. After pitching off to Paul, Griffin rolled to the hoop and received a bounce pass that perfectly split two Utah defenders. Griffin was wide open with no bodies between him and the rim, and we all know how that story ends.

Gobert, a 7-foot-2 rookie center from France, tried to slide over from the weakside, but he realized quickly that his aid would be too little, too late. Griffin rose to punch in one of his signature dunks, and Gobert simply aborted his defensive attempt, leaving his arms at his sides while shifting his body out of the way. By the time the ball went through the net, Gobert’s back was more or less turned to the hoop. At least no one was injured.

That lowlight aside, Gobert tallied four points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in just 20 minutes of play off the bench for Utah. Derrick Favors led the Jazz with a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds.

Griffin finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Paul scored 14 points and dished 10 assists. Jamal Crawford added a team-high 16 points off the bench.

L.A. moved to 5-2 on the preseason with the win; Utah fell to 1-6 with the loss.

I love the low mentality marketing of "posterizing". What is much better to watch than a dunk is someone who blocks a dunk. Alas, a league full of players trained to cower away.

It should be noted that Gobert did swat two of Griffin's attempts in the game, so Griffin didn't totally get the better of him in the game.
