NBA fines Grizzlies’ Ed Davis for blow to Rockets’ Donatas Motiejunas
Grizzlies forward Ed Davis was fined $15,000 on Monday for a flagrant foul on Rockets forward Donatas Motiejunas during Houston’s 92-73 preseason victory last week.
“Ouch,” Davis wrote on Twitter in response to the sanction, which was handed out because the league deemed Davis’s foul to be “excessive and unnecessary contact.”
With 8:42 remaining in the fourth quarter and Houston leading 74-54, Davis swung his left arm down across Motiejunas’ face as the Lithuanian attempted a putback in the paint. Motiejunas went stumbling to the court immediately and Davis was assessed a Flagrant Foul 2, which necessitates an automatic ejection. The fourth-year forward out of North Carolina departed three points, five rebounds and three assists in 12 minutes.
The foul from Friday’s game can be reviewed at the 1:45 mark of the video above.
Davis, 24, holds career averages of 7.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in three seasons with the Raptors and Bucks. He’s on the books for $3.2 million this season.
Memphis will open its regular season Wednesday in San Antonio.
