Video: Bulls’ Derrick Rose hits game-winner to beat Knicks

Ben Golliver, Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose, New York Knicks

Derrick Rose hit the game-winning shot to defeat the Knicks 82-81 on Thursday, providing a dramatic ending to the Bulls guard’s first regular-season game at the United Center since he tore his ACL during the 2012 playoffs.

Down one with 10.8 seconds remaining, Chicago inbounded to Jimmy Butler, who found Rose at the right angle. The 2011 MVP attacked off the dribble to his right, using a screen from Joakim Noah to free himself toward the baseline. Raymond Felton recovered quickly and Tyson Chandler shaded over to help, and both Knicks jumped to contest Rose’s 8-footer.

The shot rattled home with 5.7 seconds left, forcing New York to call timeout. Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony was unable to hit a game-winning jumper on the other end, and a Chandler put-back attempt was no good as time expired.

Here’s a slow-motion, reverse-angle look at Rose’s shot from the NBA on Instagram.

Rose finished with a team-high 18 points (on 7-for-23 shooting), six rebounds, and three assists in 34 minutes. Butler added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Chicago moved to 1-1.

Anthony tallied a game-high 22 points (on 8-for-24 shooting), six rebounds, six assists and six steals in 42 minutes. Chandler added seven points and a game-high 19 rebounds. New York dropped to 1-1.
