Video: Warriors’ Andre Iguodala throws mid-air, behind-the-back pass for the assist

Andre Iguodala, Ben Golliver, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers

Andre Iguodala was on the giving end and the receiving end of spectacular highlights during Golden State’s 110-90 victory over Philadelphia on Monday. The former Sixers forward hauled in a long-distance alley-oop pass from Stephen Curry during the first quarter, and he dished out a crazy, behind-the-back assist just before halftime.

With less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter and the Warriors leading 55-40, Klay Thompson corralled a defensive rebound and brought the ball up court. Iguodala found himself open in the left corner, and Thompson threaded a quick pass, as if to set up a possible quick three. The pass was a bit behind Iguodala, who jumped to ensure that he received it.

Rather than simply coming down and setting up a halfcourt offense, Iguodala wrapped the ball around his back in one motion, while hanging in mid-air, and rifled a pass to David Lee, who was set up with interior position just outside the protected circle. Lee managed to catch the surprising dish with one hand and easily finished the lay-up, as he was basket-side to the defense.

The degree-of-difficulty on this one was just off the charts, and Curry was impressed enough to raise both of his arms in recognition of such a rare dime.

Iguodala scored a game-high 32 points, including seven-three-pointers. Curry finished with a triple-double in just 29 minutes: 18 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds and five steals. Golden State improved to 3-1 with the win.

Michael Carter-Williams and Evan Turner each scored 18 points for the Sixers, who fell to 3-1 with the loss.
