Blazers’ Twitter feed mocks weaker Eastern Conference

The NBA’s conference imbalance is so drastic that it has become fodder for social media jokes made by its own teams.

Through Tuesday, the Trail Blazers were tied for the Western Conference’s best record at 15-3, and they used that pulpit to crack wise about the weaker Eastern Conference.

“Is it too late to join the Eastern Conference? Asking for a friend,” the Blazers’ official Twitter account joked Wednesday morning.

Portland was one of 12 West teams with a .500 or better record. Only three teams in the East — the Pacers, Heat and Wizards — were at .500 or better.

Not content to let the Blazers have all the fun, the Suns’ official account chimed in, too, pretending to be Portland’s previously anonymous friend.

“We asked you to keep that on the down low,” the Suns’ official feed replied to the Blazers. “That eager to get rid of us already?”

Phoenix has dealt Portland two of its three losses this season.

This is more than just a laughing matter. The surprising Suns took a 9-9 record into Wednesday’s game against Houston, which would tie them with the Wizards for the No. 3 seed in the East. In the West, the Suns were tied for 12th place with the Lakers. Put another way, the Bobcats were the East’s No. 8 seed with an 8-11 record. In the West, Charlotte would rank above only Sacramento and Utah.

Entering Wednesday’s action, East teams were a combined 114-154 (.425) and West teams were 154-114 (.575). On the bright side, at least the East hasn’t been in denial about the skewed state of things.

”We are the laughingstock of the league right now,” Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony said this week, according to The Associated Press.

”Both teams stink,” Nets coach Jason Kidd said, in advance of a nationally televised game between Brooklyn (5-13) and New York (3-13) on Thursday.

The "horrid" East went 3-0 against the West last night with the Clips getting blasted in ATL and Cleveland beating Denver. Be careful what you tweet.

Their abysmal records deserve mocking.

Mock...mock....mock...

When I imagined the Wizards, who I have followed since they were the Baltimore Bullets, being in the top two or there teams in the conference once again, I was thinking of something better than a .500 record. Ah, the stuff that dreams are made on...

maybe the east is that good and that is why the conference is struggling for once

Miami should not have had home court last year.  They'd have had the 4th best record in the West.

When was the last time the Blazers were relevant again?  I can't remember.... Rip city was a long time ago...

@bclovell: umm... no.  not even close.

My Pacers are 5-1 and the Heat are 3-0 outside of the Eastern Conference.  Beyond those teams the East is a combined 15-62 against the West so far.  (and 3 of those 15 wins are from ATL)

@Nate the Pate im not a heat fan but they were 25-5 against the west last year - which would have given them about 68-70 wins had they played a full season in the west.  maybe you should check your stats before posting?

@EasyGoer I think the Trailblazers were relevant for the 21 straight seasons they made the postseason between 1983 and 2003. They might only have the one championship, but they have been relevant more often than not.

It's only the last 10 years where they've been irrelevant, and only then because of the unfortunate knees of Greg Oden and Brandon Roy.

@itsthinking I don't think there's a trophy for having the best record 18 games into the season. When have the Trail Blazers ever been relevant? Check back in May, Portland, then maybe you'll deserve the recognition you so greedily crave.

Wow, Indiana and OKC on back to backs. And a staffer on any professional team should not do that. Did anybody watch the Jags against the Broncos?

Oh and by the way the past does matter. I remember when the Blazers were the laughing stock of the league and I cannot think of a time, when social media made fun of them. It is all about class!

One more thing: Sam Bowie, anybody?

And wait for the playoffs, I am predicting a first round loss, even though the blazer-fans deserve more for going through rough patches.

The past doesn't matter, today does.  And as of right now they are the best team in the west, that have already beaten golden state, LAL, Indiana, and OKC.  Just to name a few.
