Derrick Favors threw down a game-winning putback dunk to carry the Jazz to a 105-103 home victory over the Lakers on Friday night.

With 10 seconds remaining and the game tied at 103, Gordon Hayward attacked the basket from the right wing. After trying to turn the corner on Robert Sacre, Hayward opted for a runner off the backboard as he approached the restricted area. That shot rimmed off after hitting the glass, but the drive distracted the Lakers’ defense, which got sucked under the hoop while guarding Hayward.

That set the table for Favors, who easily collected the offensive rebound and threw down the putback dunk without any opposition in the middle of the paint. Lakers guard Jodie Meeks missed a desperation three-pointer on the other end and the Jazz held on for the victory.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Favors’ matter-of-fact post-game reaction.

“The play was to set a screen for G and let Go do what he do,” Favors said.

As Hayward attacked, L.A.’s Xavier Henry and Robert Sacre followed. Forward Jordan Hill came over to block a shot. The ball left Hayward’s hand and floated up in the air.

“I knew I had it then,” Favors said.

Favors finished with 18 points (on 9-for-15 shooting) and 14 points for the Jazz. Hayward scored a game-high 24 points (on 9-for-17 shooting) and added nine assists, five rebounds and three steals to pace Utah.

Nick Young led the Lakers with 21 points (on 10-for-17 shooting) and three assists. Chris Kaman added 19 points (on 7-for-11 shooting) and 10 rebounds for L.A.

Utah improved to 9-23 with the win; L.A. dropped to 13-17 with their fourth straight loss.
