Video: Pelicans’ Tyreke Evans hits game-winning jumper to beat Blazers
Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans hit a game-winning jumper with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift New Orleans to a 110-108 home victory over Portland on Monday.
The shot capped an exciting end-to-end late-game sequence that unfolded without any stoppages of play.
With the Pelicans leading 108-105 and less than 20 seconds remaining, the Blazers cleared a defensive rebound and pushed the ball up the court. Damian Lillard pulled up from well outside arc and fired a three-point attempt that rolled around the rim and in to tie the game at 108 with 11 seconds remaining in the game. Rather than calling a timeout to draw up a play, the Pelicans came back the other direction without hesitation, allowing Evans to work one-on-one against Mo Williams on the right wing.
Taking his time to milk off some of the clock, Evans danced for a few dribbles inside the three-point arc before letting off a step-back jumper with three seconds on the clock. The shot swished through to give New Orleans its two-point margin of victory; a potential game-tying jumper from LaMarcus Aldridge at the buzzer was no good.
Evans finished with 20 points (on 9-for-15 shooting), five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks off the bench. Jrue Holiday tallied a game-high 31 points (on 14-for-28 shooting), 13 assists and seven rebounds, and Anthony Davis added 27 points (on 13-for-19 shooting), 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Pelicans.
Lillard led the Blazers with a team-high 29 points (on 10-for-18 shooting), five assists and three rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge added 28 points (on 13-for-25 shooting), eight rebounds and three assists.
New Orleans improved to 14-15 with the win; Portland dropped to 24-7 with the loss.
