Video: DeMarcus Cousins goes coast to coast for the throwdown
Of all the thrills of the NBA game, so few compare to that of watching a power forward or center wildly push the ball in transition. The levels of risk and reward involved are so high that entertainment comes virtually guaranteed; if a play doesn’t end in a chuckle-worthy, head-shaking turnover, it’s likely to make for a fantastic highlight. Some bigs accomplish that much with the idiosyncratic polish of their handle, but on Tuesday DeMarcus Cousins sealed his coast-to-coast sequence with power alone.
The Rockets are partially to thank for how outstandingly the play turned out, given that neither Aaron Brooks nor Omri Casspi stepped up to stop the ball. As such, Cousins simply kept charging down the center of the floor — a straight-line drive without need for compromise or change in direction. He gathered gracefully, lifted off early, and rocked the rim just after Casspi’s poor attempt to foul him. It’s powerful stuff from Cousins — transition play may not typically be his thing, but it’s always a treat when he dabbles.
