Video: Spurs’ Manu Ginobili beats Grizzlies with game-winning layup in overtime
Spurs guard Manu Ginobili used a stop-and-go hesitation move to free himself for the game-winning layup with 1.8 seconds left in San Antonio’s 110-108 overtime victory over Memphis on Tuesday.
With eight seconds remaining and the score tied at 108-108, San Antonio inbounded from the right sideline to Tim Duncan at the right angle. Tony Parker ran off Duncan, clearing the way for a dribble hand-off to Ginobili curling back toward the paint. Grizzlies big man Ed Davis opted to switch off Duncan and pick up Ginobili as he turned the corner, and Ginobili froze him with a hesitation move before squeezing toward the protected circle near the left block.
Zach Randolph flashed at Ginobili from the far side but it was too late. The Argentine guard was able to bank in a running layup.
Mike Conley missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for Memphis. San Antonio held on for the victory after blowing a 12-point lead in the final two minutes of regulation.
Duncan led the Spurs with 24 points (on 9-for-16 shooting), 17 rebounds and four assists. Ginobili scored nine points (on 3-for-12 shooting) and dished out six assists.
Conley tallied a game-high 30 points (on 12-for-23 shooting), six rebounds and five assists. Randolph added 17 points (on 7-for-18 shooting) and eight rebounds.
San Antonio improved to 27-8. Memphis dropped to 15-19.
