Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins calls Bulls’ Mike Dunleavy a ‘clown’

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins renewed his beef with Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy during and after Sacramento’s 99-70 home victory over Chicago on Monday.

“He’s a clown, and he’s scared,” Cousins said, in post-game comments recorded by CowbellKingdom.com. “I wouldn’t even waste my time on him if I ever saw him outside of the gym. He’s a clown.”

The Sacramento Bee reports that the two players mixed it up on the court during a wild game.

Dunleavy pushed Cousins as he ran down the court at one point, and Dunleavy also complained on a foul that Cousins tried to injure him.

Cousins received a technical foul in a contest that also saw Joakim Noah ejected following a profane tirade against the officials.

On Tuesday, Dunleavy took the barb in stride.

“I would like to respond but clowns can’t talk,” Dunleavy said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “So I’ll mime or make him some animal balloons or something. Oh, man. That’s the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black. Honestly, I’ve never been called that before. I guess there’s a first time for everything.”

The Cousins/Dunleavy bad blood dates back to last March, when Cousins was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and ejected for elbowing Dunleavy, then with the Bucks, in the back of the head. Cousins and Dunleavy were also assessed double technical fouls prior to Cousins’ ejection, after Dunleavy appeared to undercut Cousins as he battled for position on a Marcus Thornton drive. Cousins later told reporters he felt Dunleavy’s action was intentional.

This isn’t the first time that the outspoken Cousins has had direct words regarding his opponents. In 2012, Cousins told SI.com that Clippers forward Blake Griffin was “babied” by the referees and the league, and he has also referred to Griffin as an “actor.” Back in Nov. 2013, Cousins said he was the victim of a “cheap shot” to his groin by Hawks rookie guard Dennis Schröder. Earlier this year, he implied during a Grantland.com interview that Clippers guard Chris Paul was a “cheater.”

The fourth-year center’s straightforward assessments have extended beyond the court too. He told Sacramento media members following his team’s 2013-14 season opener that the Kings “felt like an AAU team” when they were owned by the Maloof family.

Cousins now leads the NBA in technical fouls this season with 12. He also led the NBA in technical fouls with 17 last year, and he’s ranked in the top-five in technicals every season since he was selected with the No. 5 pick in the 2010 draft.

Despite being one of just four players to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game this season, Cousins was left off the Western Conference’s 2014 All-Star team.

Sacramento claimed an easy victory on Monday by holding Chicago to just 13 fourth-quarter points and 28.2 percent shooting for the game.

Cousins finished with a game-high 25 points (on 8-for-15 shooting), 16 rebounds and four assists in his first game back after missing time with an ankle injury. Isaiah Thomas added 19 points (on 7-for-9 shooting), three rebounds and three assists for the Kings.

Jimmy Butler led Chicago with a team-high 17 points (on 4-for-11 shooting), five rebounds and three steals.

Sacramento improved to 16-32 with the win. Chicago dropped to 23-24 with the loss.

Cousins is missing a few neurons up there. Maybe one day he'll grow up, but as it took 'Sheed his entire NBA career to do so, don't expect it any time soon. Cousin's could pick a battle with a telephone pole, he's such a hothead. Wilt or Nate Thurman would put him in his place before the 1st quarter was over, never mind a whole game. He really needs to shut his mouth, keep his hands, elbows and arms to himself, and play basketball. It's about the only thing he knows how to do other than eat and pooop.

..... and if he wants to challenge more announcers to fights, go ahead and ask Stacy King to throw down....  He'd put that young punk in his place and remind him how they used to get down in the early 90's....

Cousins is a great example of why people were wrong for calling Richard Sherman a thug.  Sherman is an arrogant tool, but definitely not a thug.

Cousins, on the other hand, is a thug.  He picks fights with teammates, coaches, opponents, and even play-by-play announcers...  What a waste of talent...

Cousins is the biggest punk in the NBA.  He'll never live up to that talent because he's lazy and immature.  The Queens are a joke...

I agree with cousins.

Cousins should know about clowns. He's been acting the part since college and has a Master's degree from the Barnum & Bailey School of Clowning.

Wow! the classiest, more mature, down to earth player in the NBA today called someone else a clown! It takes one to know I guess... Go back to the ghetto you came out of thug!

Cousins is a punk piece of crap!  He'll probably be dead in a year or two.  No talent, even less class!!

Cousins calling anyone a clown is like Governor Christie of New Jersey calling anyone else sleazy.

Cousins is a pain in the buttock area...I'm so tired of his act and complaining over every call. I would NEVER have him on my team as he knows nothing about TEAM or CLASS. The Kings should get what they can for him as he'll never be a team player and lead them anywhere. He'll get his points but he cares nothing about his teammates no matter how much they coddle him. A big spoiled, immature baby who just pouts...and talk about an Actor...please Cousins look in the mirror. A shame Shaq is out of the game as I'd love to see him bury him.

Another slow day in sports media and you clowns are eating it up... I would normally crush Ben Golliver for being a lowlife hack of a writer, but whatever works.... i guess..... lets see if i got this right... a guy called another a guy a clown...and one guy nudged the other and the recipient of the nudge started to cry...... just checking... the only thing i learned from this story, Dunleavy is not a clown... a gaint pu$$ yes but no clown...

Clown is the new word racial hate word blacks use towards whites, just like thug is the new n word according to sherman......and jemele hill

I think Cousins is a clown, but I'm not sure that play deserved an F2. Yes there was contact to the head, but I actually saw that as a borderline F2 call. Had the previous contact not occurred, that likely isn't called an F2 in my opinion.

Incredibly talented.  Quite possibly a sociopath.  This guy needs a shrink more than he needs a coach.

Didn't know Dunleavy juggled and danced with bears! Cool tidbit here. Thanks for the insight Cousins!

If you meet a man and you think he's a jerk, then he's probably a jerk.  If every man you meet seems to be a jerk, then you're probably a jerk.

Cousins thinks every man he meets is a jerk.

Cousin's is the biggest flopper in the nba.  If you watched the game last night, he flat out fell on his face while holding onto Butler on his own set screen.  The guy is a phoney

Great talent....but a head case.  Professional sports have a long track record w/ these individuals....it rarely ends well for the player and is usually out of the league faster than expected.

Damn shame! if this kid could ever grow up he would be up there with the top players in the NBA overall.

I wonder if the Spurs Pop and possibly playing a few years with Tim could put him on the right path?

Not that, that could ever happen?

@Joe R2  Cousins is awesome. You reference the 90's and Stacy King, and Cousins plays that exact same way. No bs. Talk the talk and walk the walk.

Well, he does have talent.  He'll just never put it to use because he's a lazy thug

@JoseLara  The difference is that Noah went off in the heat of the moment. After having time to cool down he apologized and admitted that he was in the wrong.  Cousins issues seem to arise no matter the situation.

@JoseLara Cousins seems to have a beef with every other person in the league, including his own team mates and coaches.

I don't know if he's a thug, but I'd feel confident putting Noah on any team with any coach and having him work hard, play defense,  and earn the respect of his team mates, and I'm not sure I'd ever expect that from Cousins.

@hubrob107  how is dunleavy a whinny brat? want to see if how you feel after demarcus hits you in the crown?

Joe R2
Joe R2

@Anaximenes1

First off, he's not a superstar.  He's not even an all-star.  Second, he did get every call last night, for flopping.  Didn't you see Noah get ejected?  that was because Demarcus Flopper was getting bogus calls all night...

Bearsclone
Bearsclone

@JohnnyNacho  If he puts up 26 and 15 every night, he'll be in the league as long as he doesn't kill some one.

Given a choice between a bad guy who can ball and a good guy who can't, professional sports teams will choose the bad guy/good baller every time.

@rh2000 Not sure if a coach like Pop would even bring in a player of his emotional balance.  Though its exactly what could transform Cousins into a monster of a player.  Maybe when everyone else gives up on him, and Pop is still coaching he'd take a flyer on him.

hes never had "beef" with a teammate he calls everyone out because they dont do their job i didnt know wanting to win was a crime.. most of the players we had before opnly cared about their check and thats why theyve been traded... this is the first time sacramento has a coach with a system and its starting to work...

@JoseLara  I feel like you have to see Demarcus as what he is. He is very very talented, but he is crazy. He has cheap shots on many many players in the league. I watched the game yesterday and he flopped at least 4/5 times. Someone with that large of a body should never be pushed around and fall over and over. It makes him completely a fool. I want to root for him, but seriously how can you?
