Heat’s LeBron James suffers broken nose

Ben Golliver, LeBron James, Miami Heat

The Heat announced Friday that forward LeBron James suffered a broken nose during Miami’s 103-81 road win over Oklahoma City on Thursday. The four-time MVP will be listed as a game-time decision when Miami hosts Chicago on Sunday.

The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter with Miami leading 88-74. James took a shot to the face from Thunder forward Serge Ibaka as he completed a dunk in traffic.

On the play, James attacked the paint from the left angle, driving hard to his right to gain a step on Ibaka. Rising in the paint, he climbed the ladder over the top of Ibaka to finish a “throw dunk” before he appeared to absorb a hand to the face from Ibaka during his follow-through.

James immediately fell to the court on the baseline and looked face down at the hardwood as the blood poured. Play stopped shortly thereafter and he was attended to by his teammates and medical staffers.

“He’s got a swollen nose right now,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after the game, adding that James passed a concussion test. “It’s sore. We’ll reevaluate him when we get back to Miami.”

Although James did not address reporters after the game, he joked on Twitter that he might have to wear a mask like Bane, the villain in Batman.

James has played in 52 of the Heat’s 53 games this season. He sat out a December game against the Blazers in Portland with a minor groin strain.

Miami improved to 39-14 with the victory over Oklahoma City.

This is all wrong, it wasn't Ibaka's shot block attempt that broke his nose, it was either him or Westbrook, not sure which one, slashing for the ball as he drove the lane.

Ibaka is dirty.  Just ask Blake Griffin's balls...................................

One last comment on this....first off, it was a foul...(twice)  How do those idiots miss that...second, stop calling them a dunk when the hand is nowhere near contact to the rim.  It was a throw down...Griffin has mastered that...and you sport writers keep calling them dunks.  Stop it.  And lastly, to the Bron haters out there who are happy he broke his nose..( you people are whats wrong today with sports/sport fans in general, you applaud an injury.  You're sick people...get help.

This is typical Ibaka.  A cowardly, dirty player.  He keeps doing this and keeps getting away with it.  Look at the slo-mo.  He's going for the face.  Some shot blocker.

Was that a hand/wrist that hit dude in the face, or was it a sniper's bullet?  He passed the concussion test afterward, so it obviously was just a glancing blow that caught him.  Did he really have to roll around on the ground like that?  I'm a soccer fan, and even I thought that was too much play-acting (and btw-, most soccer fans HATE the fake injuries as much as anyone else does, and should).

Man's game, bro, man's game.

@Justin37  Oh, and when you compare a black man to a 300LB ape...that's called racism.  You my friend, are a racists.  Also Justin, you might want to work on your grammar and punctuation.  It shows your level of intelligence.

@RonHawkster  There was definitely more unnecessary follow through after his hand was already a distance away from the ball and Lebron's arm. Definitely an intention to hit. Ibaka is right up there with the Ron Artests of the world. Ibaka is a dirty player.

@RonHawkster  Yeah, it kind of did look like he intentionally tried to hit LeBron in his head.  I wondered about that.

@RonHawkster Yup...because Ibaka has broken so many noses with his face sniping....

@Mr_A  A 'glancing blow' can really break someone's nose like that? Obviously it was more than just a 'glancing blow'. And it's the nose, you could also have trouble breathing. And acting fake injuries is much worse in soccer than the NBA, so don't even compare.

@Mr_A

Well of course, because the blood pouring onto the floor is from a fake injury.

@Mr_A Like you would last more than 30 seconds in the paint in an NBA game, Mr. A-hole.
