Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was arrested early Tuesday morning and faces multiple felony weapons charges, according to reports citing New York Police Department sources.

The Wall Street Journal reports, citing a police source, that Felton was arrested on New York’s Upper West Side for criminal possession of a weapon and that he faces three charges in relation to the incident.

ESPNNY.com reports additional details regarding the charges.

Felton was charged with second and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, which are felonies, and fourth-degree possession of a firearm, which is a misdemeanor, the [police department] spokesman said.

The New York Post reported earlier Tuesday that Felton was being questioned by police after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman believed to be his girlfriend. The paper further reported that Felton faces three weapons charges.

The arrest occurred just hours after New York lost to Dallas 110-108 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. Felton tallied eight points (on 3-for-4 shooting) and seven assists in 34 minutes.

News circulated last week that Felton and his wife of less than two years were in the process of getting a divorce.

“It’s your life,” Felton said, according to the New York Daily News. “When you’re going through certain things in life it’s on your mind, no matter what. You try not to let it come into your job, into your workplace, but sometimes it does. You’re human and it’s a part of life. But at the same time, it is what it is. That’s my personal life, though; I don’t want to discuss that part.”

Felton, 29, is averaging a career-low 10.5 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per game in what has been a rocky season. The nine-year vet is shooting 40 percent from the field, 28.8 percent on three-pointers and holds a 12.6 Player Efficiency Rating, which is a career-low mark. Felton, who is on the books for $3.6 million this season, was involved in numerous trade rumors prior to last week’s trade deadline but New York ultimately did not move him.

The Knicks (21-36) released guard Beno Udrih and forward Metta World Peace on Monday.

Here's hoping that Coach Woodson gives some serious minutes to Toure Murry.

This is crazy. what happened to a wife not testifying against her husband. If it was about the gun, she could have thrown it into the river before she got to the precinct.

This is all about leverage in a divorce case.  The divorce lawyer for the wife take the gun to the police station.  He should deny it being his gun.

Assaulting or threatening someone with it is a problem, but merely possessing a gun should not be a crime - unless he's already a convicted felon. NYC's guns laws are unconstitutional. Just sayin'.

Dirk Nowitzki drives Raymond Felon over the edge. Congratulations New York, you're now the proud owner of the NBA's version of the Jets.

With this guys shooting percentage, he probably would have missed if he had pulled the trigger !

I don't know what the big deal is. Even if Felton had a gun he would have fumbled it, dribbled it off his knee and lost it out of bounds anyway.

Unfortunately this type of behavior has become the trade mark of today’s NBA .  Character no longer seems to matter.I stopped watching several years ago.

First Felton busted the salary cap, then he busted an actual cap.

Remember Plaxico Burris?  Felton will not walk as NYC wants guns off the streets so innocent bystanders aren't killed.  Felton is Ray Rice +1.  NBA basketball sucks!!!  We all need to stop watching and supporting NBA basketball. Go to a college or high school game.

Nothing says "moron" like throwing your entire career away so you can play "gangster".

As a human being, I find this alleged domestic incident appalling and I hope Felton gets his life in order through what is obviously a very troubling time.

As a Knicks fan, does this mean we can cancel his contract?  Is Charlie Ward still ambulatory?

Carrying a gun is the only way to get the Knicks to shoot better.

His wife is leaving him because he's reduced to firing blanks, both on an off the floor.

Now he's going to prison.

The Nuggets were right about him. What a joke Raymond Felton is.

Can the Knicks get the standard prison exemption on their cap? Maybe they can sign a real point guard.

@NormanCaldwell I was thinking the same exact thing. dump it in the river. she just put that many in prison. sad.

@NormanCaldwell You must have missed the part about them being in the process of getting a divorce. I don't think the soon-to-be former Mrs. Felton is out to do him any favors.

@NormanCaldwell That is up to her. For example, if he shot her, would you argue she should or could not testify against him?

@Hola I suspect his prints are on it. And there may be a record of his buying it, other people who have seen him with it, etc.

@brians356 If they are unconstitutional, why haven't they been struck down by a court? Different laws for different states. And I hope it is not just convicted felons you think should not have guns--how about the mentally ill? People on the no-fly terrorist watch list? Non-US citizens?

@RobertJacke  I'm sure he asked what kind of food is served in prison. This might be good for the Knicks if they can void his contract.
